McIntosh to Join HIAAA Administraion

Mathew McIntosh will be assuming the General Manager duties of The Ice and Sports Complex after he was approved by the HIAAA Board during their October 2018 monthly meeting.

Mathew, is not an unknown fixture to the Hagerstown area having lived in Leitersburg for twenty years. During this time, he served as the Committee Chair who built this same ice rink in the late 90's. Commonly known as, "Dr. Mac", Mathew returned with his wife Lou Ann from a decade long stay in Ohio where he finished a thirty five year career in Health Sciences. His last position was the Dean of Campus/Academics at Kent State University/Geauga.

Dr. Mac and his wife, LouAnn have three adult children. Currently, they are living in Cearfoss, Maryland.

The new General Manager brings with him an extensive back ground in both sports management having also served as the Chair of the Health, Physical Education and Recreation Sports Department at Shepherd University for five years. He has been a sports official completing his 47th year in soccer with lesser tenures in hockey, baseball, softball and basketball.

He came to Hagerstown in 1988 and served as the Director of the Wellness and Cardiac Rehab Center at Hagerstown Community College.

'Dr. Mac', a native of Canada, comes from both an ice hockey and figure skating family, having served as a staff member at both the Slazor and Tkachuk Hockey camps in St. Marys, Ontario and later Graduate Assistant with the Kent State University Ice Rink.

He has held board and coaching positions with ice rinks in Fairview and Calgary Alberta and USAHA Officiating experience in both Des Moines, Iowa and Hagerstown, Maryland.

"How we snatched Dr. Mac for this position is a real plus for the place," noted local Fire and Rescue Professional, Jim Kessler, a patron who has known Dr. Mac for thirty years.

"I want to thank Board Chair Paul Sweeny and the HIAAA Board for giving me this opportunity. I also want to thank Elliot Martin for his dedication to the Complex over the past three year. I look forward to carrying on the fine tradition the Board has created with the Hagerstown and regional area."

McIntosh's appointment comes at a time when the HIAAA is exploring facility expansion and diversity in the programs being offered to the community.
