Rink showcases hockey to local residents

Dozens of local kids were able to lace up a pair of skates and hit the ice yesterday, as part of USA Hockey's national "Try Hockey for Free" (THFF) day.  THFF allows participants to experience the game of hockey to see if it is a sport they wish to pursue.

Normally, the cost of purchasing hockey equipment can be expensive.  Parents may be hesitant to purchase this equipment if their child only wants to play one season.  The THFF program allows families to make a more informed decision before committing to playing.

The best part of the day was seeing so many smiling young faces as they learned the basics of skating and hockey.  This was made possible by volunteers from various user groups that play and complete at the rink.  We had youth hockey coaches (HYHA), members of the women's team (Mayhem), figure skating instructors (HESA and Learn to Skate), adult league players (HAHL, HARL) and our sled hockey team (Kodiaks) representing their organizations.  These volunteers helped players get dressed, make their way onto the ice, and taught them some basic moves and game concepts.

Thanks to all of our volunteers and participants for making this an amazing experience!  We hope to see you back at the rink soon!
