Inclement Weather Q & A

When does the rink close?

The rink may close during normal business hours for a variety of reasons.  We remove the ice every other summer, to ensure the boards and ice are in optimal condition when being used.  We close on some holidays, too.  In the winter, inclement weather forces closures occasionally.

Who decides when to close the rink during inclement weather?

  • The rink management consults the board of directors and city work crews.  Factors such as temperature, amount of precipitation and future forecasts aid in the decision, along with travel advisories and general road conditions.

When are these decisions made?

  • They are typically made as the situation progresses.  We understand our customers' needs, and try to hold off before closing prematurely in case expected weather patterns change.  Each morning, key personnel communicate and make a determination for the day.

What is the best way to find out if the rink is closed?

What happens if I had an event scheduled that day?

  • Team or group events, such as hockey games or skating competitions, will be rescheduled by their respective user group.  Contact the group's leadership personnel for updates.  The rink calendar will be updated once those future dates are assigned.
  • For birthday parties, contact the front office for options.
  • Public events, such as public skating, stick-and-shoot and pick-up hockey will not be rescheduled.
