Another successful day of fundraising

On May 2, the rink participated in its 2nd Washington County Gives charity event.  This fundraiser is a one-day opportunity for local non-profits to encourage donations from the community.

The Community Foundation of Washington County promotes and organizes the annual event.  We thank the Community Foundation for their assistance, advice, and promotion of the date.

Events

The rink held several special events to raise awareness of the day.

  • In the morning, our adult hockey players enjoyed a "Skip Work, Play Hockey" event.  They hit the ice for a competitive scrimmage before heading to work.
  • The Hagerstown Kodiaks sled hockey team held their first annual sled-a-thon, an event in which individual team members received donations for the laps they skated around the ice.
  • The Hagerstown Edge Skating Academy (HESA) held a skating clinic in the afternoon.  Local figure skaters came out and practiced their moves and routines for upcoming competitions.
  • In the evening, the Washington County NorthStars alumni team took the ice against the HAHL adult tournament team.  Players who graduated or moved out of the area came back to reconnect with old friends and teammates.

Fundraising Totals

After an event-filled day, HISC received a total of $23,789 in donations.  This amount surpassed expectations, and was a significant increase over the donation total from last year.  We are incredibly thankful to our donors, volunteers, participants and rink staff that made the day a huge success.

The beneficiaries of these funds are the Kodiaks, NorthStars, HESA and Hagerstown Youth Hockey Association.  On behalf of each organization, thank you for helping us to improve our ice sports experiences in the community!
