The information presented here is intended to provide some preliminary information about the Northstars High School Hockey ice hockey program. If you are thinking of being part of this special program, even if you are not a current student at any Washington County Public School, your first step is to contact coach Jamie Blackwood at 301-791-0522.
The Northstars ice hockey program is
not about win at any cost, it goes beyond just being an ice hockey team. It is a program about hard work in the class room and hard work and dedication at practice. It is a program where the student athletes learn and develop more then just hockey skills.
The North Stars Hockey Program
The Northstars program is made up of the varsity team and coming soon is a Junior Varsity (JV) team.
Varsity Team
Players must first be students of WCPS to participate with the varsity team. (maybe changed to add Private Schools as well). Make the Varsity Roster during a try out period TBD by the coach. A player may float between Varisty and JV as the rules permit.
Junior Varsity Team
The Northstars JV team will be playing under USA Hockey rules allowing high school age players from of a lesser developed skill level to play in a competitive yet developmental program.
The Maryland Scholastic League (MSHL)
There are over 40 high school varsity hockey teams in Maryland and 10 within in our conference competing in the MSHL. The Northstars and MSHL are co-ed.
The MSHL consists of 45+ Maryland schools competing within Conferences of the MSHL.
